Preparing Your Home For Winter

Loganville Snow Event (12 Feb. 2010) - House's Front

Are you ready for winter?

Is your home ready for winter?

While the weather is still decent, we are preparing our home for the winter ahead. The last thing we want to do is have problems when the weather is freezing that could have been prevented now.

Don't know how to get your house winter-ready? My husband is a home builder and these are some of the things he recommends to his homeowners in order to prepare their home for winter. Hopefully, these tips will help you, too.

  • Winterize your lawn
  • Have the heating and cooling system inspected and serviced
  • Replace furnace filter
  • Detach and drain outside hoses
  • Replace batteries in garage door keypad and thermostat
  • Test smoke alarms and replace batteries
  • Winterize your lawn sprinkler system
  • Lubricate the moving parts of your garage door
  • Clean and check sump pump and pit
  • Ensure the lines on the outside of your home for your direct vent furnace are free from obstructions
How are you preparing your home for winter?
