What are you Preparing for?

Christmas is the busiest time of year. Parties, lights, cookies, shopping, making, wrapping, trip planning...the list seems never ending. Especially right now. It is crunch time! 10 more days until Christmas!

We will be leaving in the near future for our first ever cross country drive with a 4 year old. We are looking at 2 full days in the car. This has created some extra planning that wasn't needed before. I am trying to finish up my to-do list, which does not include cleaning the house, laundry, and packing. It is all coming to a head and I am worn out already.

But during all this planning, I am realizing that I am not taking as much time as I should be in remembering the WHY of Christmas. It's not about the lights, gifts, or traveling. It is about JESUS. What should I be doing to prepare my heart for our coming King? You can see our plan here.

So, if I am committed to reading every night with my daughter, why am I not taking the time to read for myself? Doesn't our example speak louder than our words? Don't our actions reflect what we are putting into our heart? (Matt 12:34)

Today, I must take a break from the "must get done" to do something much more important--Preparing my heart for the King of all Kings!

  1. Amen! What a good reminder :) We cannot see to the spiritual health and growth of our kids if we are not healthy and growing ourselves. I have cherished our Advent adventures so far this holiday season, but it is critical that I make time for God to whisper to my heart ... and for me to hear Him with all the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. Thanks so much for posting this!
