An Apple a Day

I have mentioned before that I love the smell of fall. Nothing is better than cooking up some sweet treats in your own home!

Two weeks ago my family took a day and headed to the mountains to pick apples. Unfortunately, there were not any apples on the trees. But they did have some bagged for me to take home--half a bushel. I had my list of recipes ready to go! The next week was a baking week.

Apple Butter : Apple Dumplings
Apple Bread : Apple Pie

My favorite item this year was by far the apple dumplings. Super easy and so delicious.

2 large apples, peeled and cored (I used Gala)
2 (10 ounce) cans refrigerated crescent roll dough
1 cup butter
1 1/2 cups white sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 (12 fluid ounce) can or bottle Mountain Dew ™

Preheat the oven to 350. Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.

Cut each apple into 8 wedges and set aside. Separate the crescent roll dough into triangles. Roll each apple wedge in crescent roll dough starting at the smallest end. Pinch to seal and place in the baking dish.

Melt butter in a small saucepan and stir in the sugar and cinnamon. Pour over the apple dumplings. Pour Mountain Dew™ over the dumplings.

Bake for 35 to 45 minutes, or until golden brown.

My next venture is pumpkin. Do you have any pumpkin recipes you are willing to share? Post a link in the comments!

  6. The MD is an odd ingredient. I agree. But still so good.

Carol--Mine were a little soupy. I do not like soggy things. Hmm. Maybe mine were less soupy because I prepped the sugar/butter at home and then packed it all up to cook it at a friends house an hour later (so they wouldn't get soggy). Maybe the butter/sugar sitting allowed it to crystalize a bit making it less liquidy. Maybe? Or you could cut back a bit on the MD? Glad you had some kitchen fun with the kids!
