Growing up I remember staying up late (during the summer) watching old movies with my mom. It was our bonding time and I cherish those memories with my mom. And then there was college. I thrived on staying out with friends and enjoying getting to know new friends. JD is also a night owl, so getting married didn't help me change my habits. Friends know they can call at 10 pm because they know I will still be wide awake.
On those mornings when I do have places to go and things to do, I set my alarm for earlier than I need to get up so I can snooze and stay in bed longer. Crazy, I know, but it is the truth. For the next 30 days, I am going to start a new habit of getting up when the alarm goes off. And incorporated into that I am going to get to bed earlier so it will be easier to actually get out of bed when the beeping starts. Hopefully, I will feel better each day and not start dragging in the afternoon before my second wind takes place. It's going to be a tough one, but I am up for the challenge.
Anyone else have a hard time getting out of bed in the morning? What do you do to make it easier?

Before I was married I would hit snooze for an hour but now we keep the clock on Steven's side so I feel bad if he has to wake up to hit snooze for me so I get up.
ReplyDeleteI am a complete night owl! I have started forcing myself to go to bed earlier, that helps. Also I try to have the coffee set on a timer so it's waiting for me when I wake up. The thought of 30 minutes of quiet time alone before my 3 kids wake up is usually all the motivation I need. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a night person or a morning person. I like to go to bed early and sleep as long as possible. Both of my boys are early risers, so they (and by they, I mean we) are up before 6:00. When I did get up with the alarm, putting it across the room helped me get out of bed!
ReplyDeleteOh boy, can i relate to that!
ReplyDeleteMy tactic for getting up when the alarm goes off is to use a clock with no snooze... I bought one of those old "Big Ben" clocks at Pottery Barn and you only get one chance.
Risky, but effective!
do you think the night owlness is passed from generation to generation? my mom is up till crazy hours getting stuff done. I am too! I rarely get anything done during the day and I get a second wind at about 8 to 830 every night -regardless of how tired I am!!! sometimes it is really frustrating being a night owl!!!
