It would have saved time to just go to the grocery store, but instead we're growing a garden and buying from local farmers. We're canning what we buy and grow, even though it would save time to just write "can of corn" on my grocery list. It would save time to use disposable diapers, but instead, during the week you'll usually find James in his cloth diapers.
The whole point of saving time in one area is to have more time in another area. My time saving tips this week have to do with my least favorite household chore- laundry!
You can see both of my time saving tips in the picture above. First, I don't fold sheets (or towels)! When I wash and dry them, they go right back on the beds. I never can get that fitted sheet folded right anyway! It's easier for me just to take them straight from the dryer to the bed.My second tip happened by accident. I went to Carter's a few weeks ago to get the boys new pajamas. But Carter's already had their flannel and fleece pajamas out! They also had their shorts and tee-shirts on clearance. So I bought comfy athletic shorts and tees and those became their new pajamas! There are days the boys and I don't leave the house. If we do run a quick errand, they can wear the clothes they slept in when we go out and about. Also, I take a lot of pictures of my oldest David doing projects for our family blog. Now I don't have to say "let's put some real clothes on" before we do a project. I know this tip wouldn't work for everyone. But with all the outfits my boys go through in a week, anything I can do to decrease my laundry works for me!

Sounds like a "works for me Wednesday" waiting to happen, no? :)
ReplyDeleteI do the same thing with sheets, Sandra. Great idea!
ReplyDeletemy boys will not wear pj's to bed!! I have wasted so much money trying to get them to wear something OTHER than their clothes to bed - I finally gave up!! It saves me time and laundry to just let them wear there clothes to bed!! Right now - my youngest has on a PJ shirt as his clothes....whatever!!!
ReplyDeleteWhile this doesn't cut down on the amount of laundry... I make a point to turn my machine on first thing in the morning. I always get a load started early on - then it is just easy enough to do the second load - and that's my average each day - if I can do two loads a day - (some days more) then I am never overwhelmed by it.
ReplyDeleteAnd this is going to sound really crazy - I used to wash and dry my sheets and return them to my bed, but I missed the nice fold lines in my sheets! (I told you it was weird). My friend taught me a great way to fold fitted sheets... you tuck the pockets inside each other, so when you finish folding it, all for pockets are folded as one. Hard to explain, but it is so simple and makes the fitted sheets easier!
I fold my sheets and towels. By the time they get on the bed, they've lost their fresh from the dryer scent, but oh well! D-man wears cloth too except Sunday morning, so I understand about the extra loads. We have enough diapers to make it 2 days, but we put ours out to sun instead of in the dryer, so it takes a lot longer! He also sleeps in pajamas, but it's usually a onesie. Ben says he can't tell the difference in his clothes and pajamas, but I can! When we go for a walk in the mornings, he just wears his onesie pajamas and I'm cool with that! Thanks for the time saving advice! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat idea!
ReplyDeleteWe do this often and it is a time save as well. What do you do with your towels rather than fold them??? I am curious. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteBecky- The towels go right back into the bathroom on the racks!
ReplyDeleteLOL...I'm right there with you on ideas to make the laundry less of a chore! Great idea with the towels. I will have to start that!
ReplyDeleteGreat tips - I do the same thing with sheets!
ReplyDeleteTalking with some friends recently, I was horrified to learn that some families put PJs in the laundry after one night and towels in the laundry after one shower! No wonder they have so much laundry to do! I've always given those things a week or so, or put them in the laundry when they start to look or smell less fresh.
