From Kama's Mom

Kama's Labor Day Advice from Mom (Nana to our sweet little one):

Well, My Girl, your time is fast approaching and we are all so excited to see the sweet little baby that you have been carrying around for so long. I know that you are going to be the best mother and Ben will be such a devoted dad---just like he is as a husband.

I have a few things to say about labor and you and I have discussed some of them, but I'll give it a shot anyway:

1) Try to get as much rest as you can prior to going into labor. There won't be much time for rest while in labor or after you go home with a new baby.

2) Make sure Ben is well shaved every day. Every time I went into labor & waited it out at home until I was ready to burst (I thought), Dad always had to stop & shave before we could leave the house. I thought he was kidding, but sure enough, he shaved at the last minute. Guess he wanted the new baby to see him looking his best.

3) Know that I am going to be there for you every step of the way---to help in whatever way I can. I can hardly wait to stay with you & help take care of your sweet family. We will have so much fun getting to know little Snicklefritz. It will tear me totally apart to have to eventually leave you & go home to Houston & let you be on your own, but I will only be a phone call away & a short drive if you need me.

4) Nana & Pop are always available for babysitting (whether for an evening out for you & Ben, or for a weekend get-away). We really look forward to those times.

5) I would try to make you promise to call me the minute you feel anything, but I plan to be sitting there watching for an change in expression on your face before that time. But just in case it's a little early, you must double-cross-your-heart promise me that you will call me immediately.

6) This definitely won't be the easiest thing you will ever do, but the reward will be the best thing you could ever imagine. It is a time you will never forget. The pain of labor will fade the minute you lay eyes on your baby, but the exilleration you feel at that moment, will never fade from your mind.

7) One last thing----your key word will have to be "patience." You may be a little stressed, but there will be people there to help you & Ben. Remember we all love you & want to enjoy this time with you both.

Well, Princess----I hope this helps a little bit. Know that I will never forget the night you were born & every day with you since then has been a pleasure. I am so blessed to be your mother--- but also your friend. You are my delight!!

I love you always----MOM

  3. I have loved reading everyone's L&D stories. My two were different (normal with an epidural with the first and PTL, bed rest and a local with the second), but each one came out fine and I treasure the gifts that God has given me. During my first pregnancy I read "The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy" and laughed my head off. But it had a lot of great info in it that I wouldn't have known otherwise. I pray that your L&D go smoothly and your little blessing will be healthy and perfect -- just as all babies are!

On a side note I want to say thank you to all you ladies for picking me to be the winner for the guest post giveaway. I don't have any Southern Living cookbooks and am looking forward to checking it out. Especially since I can use the recipes in my once-a-month cooking! Thank you!
